Does more political news coverage mean more votes?
Direct answer
More headlines naming a politician measure media attention. They are neither a voter-support poll nor votes cast at an election. A party’s share of coverage cannot be presented as its vote share.

What TamilTick counts
We count distinct reports and videos whose headlines name a tracked leader, party or place within the stated window, using our deduplication rules. The figure is not a count of every name occurrence in full article bodies.
One report can name several leaders, so summing leader counts does not necessarily produce the unique-report total. Read the article, outlet, video and window evidence beside the measure.

Why attention can rise
An announcement, party meeting, controversy or major event can generate repeated reporting. That measures publishing activity. The count alone does not establish that the reporting supported the person named.
Our editorial interpretation is that a measure without a sampled electorate and questions about voting preference cannot directly establish voting intention. A model’s headline-tone estimate is not the voter’s opinion either.

Compare matching windows and source coverage
Do not compare one leader’s seven-day count with another leader’s one-day count. First align the time window, geography and collected sources. Missing outlet data can reduce a count without any reduction in real-world reporting.
A collection gap is not zero coverage. District reporting cannot be relabelled as reporting for one small constituency. Check notes about places sharing a district or town name too.

Use election records for votes
The ECI result is the appropriate record for a party’s election vote share. Coverage share and vote share differ in denominator, time and what they measure.
Attention measures can help readers find reports and investigate which issue is being discussed. We do not convert them into win probabilities or vote shifts. Read coverage trends alongside results while preserving that distinction.

Frequently asked questions
Can critical coverage contribute to the count?
Headline-name counts are not votes for or against a person. The measure establishes that the name appeared in coverage.

Does a falling count mean support has fallen?
That cannot be concluded. The observation window or source collection may differ, or fewer reports may have been published. Voter support needs separate evidence.
